1 dead, 1 injured in Wisconsin crane collapse

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — One worker is dead and another seriously injured after a crane collapsed while trying to lift a beam on an eastern Wisconsin bridge.

Department of Transportation spokesman Kris Schuller says the crane was working on the Butte Des Morts bridge in Winnebago County when it collapsed at about 9 a.m. Thursday.

Winnebago County Coroner Barry Busby says one worker died at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Waukesha-based concrete company Spancrete identified the worker who was killed as 35-year-old Joseph R. Bidler of Waukesha.

The collapse is the second fatal accident this year involving a crane working on the U.S. 41 expansion and redesign project.
