1,000 gallons of fuel spilled in Wis. tanker crash
TOWN OF RANDOLPH, Wis. (AP) — Officials estimate about 1,000 gallons of fuel spilled from an overturned tanker truck and into a marsh near Randolph in Columbia County.
Emergency management director Pat Beghin says a witness told authorities it looked like the driver of the tanker swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the roadway — possibly a deer — and crashed Tuesday. The driver was taken from the scene by ambulance. The extent of injuries is not known.
The State Journal says the tanker was hauling about 8,500 gallons of gas and diesel fuel. The crash shut down Highway 73 for hours. Fuel had to be pumped from the tanker before it was turned upright.
