$17 million in renovations to locks and dams along Mississippi River
Dams from Alma to Prairie du Chien to see work
TREMPEALEAU, Wis. (WKBT) – $17 million dollars of rehabilitation projects are underway at six lock and dams in our area.
The projects range from Lock and Dam 4 near Alma to Lock and Dam 9 north of Prairie du Chien.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded the Twin Cities based company.
The work will repair tow rail systems, which helps boat traffic as it travels to the north.
The completed work will improve safety for Corps lock operators and industry deckhands.
“If for some reason they were secure, that rail could come loose, the barges can come loose, where they want to go is toward the dam. Obviously not safe, so we want to make sure we have a new system that is safe,” said Scott Baker, contracting officer representative.
Construction will take place during the non-navigation season this year.
