175 volunteers participate in 10th Annual La Crescent Neighbors Day
Volunteers helped 65 residents get ready for spring
LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) — Hundreds of volunteers took advantage of the beautiful weather Saturday to do something nice for one another.
In La Crescent, more than 175 volunteers of all ages came together to do some spring cleaning for community members.
It’s part of the 10th annual La Crescent Neighbors Day.
Volunteers washed windows, raked lawns and cleaned out gardens for those who are unable to do so themselves.
Volunteer teams include businesses, families, service organizations and churches. One volunteer said it’s his way of giving back to such a wonderful community.
“We aren’t’ just individuals who live by ourselves, we live in community with people and being able to get out and serve one another is not only good for them, but good for the community as a whole,” said Ryan Perry, an associate pastor at La Crescent Evangelical Free Church.
Not only do some volunteers make it their mission to participate in the event every year, but those who receive the help are just as thankful.
“The folks we are doing the work for are really grateful and that we are able to do this for them. Some of the neighbors will have donuts for them or some type of treat s when they get there to do the work,” said Mike Doering a committee member.
The volunteers helped about 65 neighbors clean up their yards just in time for spring.
