$18 million going toward public transit grants for Wisconsin communities, including La Crosse

MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) – Folks in La Crosse will have some more opportunities to get to places they need to go.

Gov. Tony Evers, the Wisconsin DOT and the state DOA announced Wednesday $18 million in public transit grants for several Wisconsin communities, including La Crosse.

These are part of the second round of grants through the state’s Transit Capital Assistance Grants through the Volkswagen Mitigation Program. In addition to La Crosse, the Eau Claire, Wausau, Madison, Green Bay, Sheboygan, Beloit and Racine transit systems are able to buy a total of 34 public transit buses.

The first round of grants were awarded last year, which provided $32 million to 10 public transit systems in the state to replace 58 buses.
