2 charged in Minnesota shooting that killed 5-year-old
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two teenagers have been charged in a Minneapolis shooting that killed a 5-year-old boy who had been sleeping on his grandmother’s couch.
The teens, one 17 and one 15, were both charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the death last week of Nizzel George. The younger boy was charged as a juvenile, but the older one, Stephon Terrell Shannon of Minneapolis, was charged as an adult.
According to a criminal complaint, Shannon told a witness that he fired at the house. Shannon said he was on the porch of a nearby house when it was shot at the night before, and he believed someone associated with the house where Nizzel was staying was responsible.
Nizzel’s funeral was scheduled for Tuesday.
