2 dead, 1 injured in head-on collision in Vernon Co.
Authorities believe speed was a factor
VERNON COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) — Two people are dead and one other is injured following a two-vehicle crash Friday night in Vernon County.
The Vernon County Sherriff’s Department says the crash happened around 9:40 p.m. along Highway 56 near County Road K just outside of Genoa. Upon arrival, officers found one person had been ejected from the vehicle, while another was trapped in the vehicle.
Officers on scene said two men from the Beloit area were traveling westbound on Highway 56 when they hit another vehicle head on after crossing the center line while going around a curve in the road.
The two men were killed on impact. The passenger in the other vehicle, a girl from Genoa, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“By looking at the evidence at the scene, skid marks and the debris pattern and point of impact, it appears the vehicle that was traveling west bound with two young men in it was traveling at a high rate of speed and it appears they lost control,” said Vernon County Sheriff John Spears.
Authorities say the female driving the other vehicle was injured and transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life threating injuries.
Names have not been released.
