2019 Aldo Leopold Celebration continues in La Crosse

The La Crosse Area 2019 Aldo Leopold celebration is underway.

Aldo Leopold is known as an important conservationist. His essays are published in his book, “A Sand County Almanac”.

A walk through Myrick Park was held Thursday evening.

Organizers say there are many groups honoring Leopold’s work.

According to Chuck Lee, the president of Friends of the Marsh, “This is a good event that we, and several other organizations like WisCorps, Viterbo University, Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Mississippi Valley Conservancy all pitch in and help schedule every year. It’s a good way to celebrate Wisconsin a little bit as well.”

The celebration continues on Saturday at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish Refuge Visitor Center on Brice Prairie. There will be a photography workshop for adults at 10 a.m. followed by a photography workshop for kids. Children will also be able to do crafts at the morning event.

Starting at 1 p.m., there will be a Climate Action Festival at the La Crosse First Congregational Church.
