La Crosse residents express concerns about pedestrians, bicyclist safety
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) People in La Crosse are sharing their safety concerns for pedestrians and bicyclists who use West Avenue.
The Grandview-Emerson Neighborhood Association hosted a public meeting at City Hall on Thursday to address safety improvements needed at the intersections of West Avenue and Badger Street and West Avenue and King Street.
One concern is that the King Street intersection doesn’t have marked crosswalks, which has resulted in pedestrian-involved crashes.
In addition, there has been multiple bicycle or pedestrian-related crashes at the Badger Street intersection, which is heavily used by UWL students.
The City of La Crosse is proposing adding pedestrian-activated flashing lights at both intersections, which are tentatively scheduled for 2021 street improvements.
