4000 Foundation hosts railroad open house
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse offered tours of a bit piece of its history Saturday.
The 4000 Foundation hosted the Shortline Railroad Open House, where people had the chance to step inside different locomotives and see how they worked.
The open house is part of the John Dobson Picnic, an event that brings together retired railroad workers every year. Organizers say it’s a great way to show how times have changed.
“[It’s] very interesting to see how it was done way back then and just to imagine how they could even come up with the ideas to do this stuff,” said Steven Anderson, a member of the railroad. “it just amazes me, and I worked on the railroad for 40 years.”
All proceeds from donations will go back into improvements and maintenance of those trains.
