$6.3 million Hamilton Elementary expansion takes step forward
$400,000 CDBG to help offset some costs
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A $6.3 million expansion of Hamilton Elementary in La Crosse is closer to reality.
The city was just awarded a $400,000 community development block grant to help offset some of the costs of the project.
The building houses Hamilton as well as the School of Technology and Arts or SOTA One.
The grant follows about five years of discussion.
About 300 students are taking classes in the building, and a lot of areas will be impacted when the project begins.
“Really it’s a space issue. Currently, Hamilton, their gymnasium and their cafeteria share a space, so what this would really do give a new gymnasium. It will add three new classrooms and a new LMC, so it really expands the space,” said Joe Ledvina, School District of La Crosse Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
The plan will also add space for community use.
