8 year old girl is Philanthropist of the Year

A local girl receives award from YWCA La Crosse

YWCA La Crosse’s annual Circle of Friends luncheon and awards presentation was held Wednesday, April 17 at the La Crosse Center.

This event allows YWCA staff and friends to celebrate the transformational impact and mission-driven goals of agency programs.

In addition, two award recipients were honored: Lynn Berra of Chaseburg, recipient of the Emily “Sis” Hutson Volunteer of the Year Award; and elementary school student Olive Meyers of Onalaska, the 2019 Olga Schleiter Memorial Philanthropic Partner.

For Olive, what started as an elementary teacher asking her what she would do with 100 dollars turned into the Olive Challenge, which raised more than 4 thousand dollars for the La Crosse YWCA.

The Philanthropist of the Year award has typically been given to businesses and corporations who have donated to different programs for the organization, but this year 8 year old Olive Meyers received the award for her contribution to the organization.
