9-year-old killed during grain bin repair
Family trying to fix auger
LANCASTER, Wis. — A 9-year-old boy died when he became trapped in a grain bin Thursday, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews were called to 2558 Dry Hollow Rd. in the town of Liberty at 11:18 a.m. for a report of a boy trapped in a grain bin. The boy was found at 12:35 p.m. and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the half full 7,000 to 8,000 bushel grain bin’s auger had become stuck, and family members, including the boy, were attempting to fix it when the boy became trapped.
The Southwest Wisconsin Technical Rescue Team, Lancaster Fire Department and EMS, Pennimore Fire Department, Platteville Fire Department, Iowa County Technical Rescue Team and Med Flight assisted at the scene.
