A few steps to avoiding ice falls
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A wintry mix is in the forecast, and so is ice.
To avoid falls, there’s a few things to remember.
Assume that all wet, dark areas on sidewalks and streets are covered with ice.
Walking is more difficult, so wear shoes with traction, or ice cleats.
And one expert says, you just have to take it slow.
“We can’t take as long of a stride as we normally do, if there’s going to be ice. So you want to take short strides, and actually just walk like a penguin, because when we do that, it gives us better stability, preventing a slip and fall,” said Brian Langenhorst, Industrial & Ergonomics Specialist at Mayo Clinic Health System.
