A rally at La Crosse’s Riverside Park Band Shell to stop racism
A call for justice as protesters rally during a march in downtown La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Protesters rallied at La Crosse’s Riverside Park in La Crosse Thursday night to call for justice after the most recent death of a black man involving a police officer.
Organized by the high school group Black Student Leaders, They’re calling for justice following the death of Daunte Wright this past weekend in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center.
Wright was shot by officer Kim Potter during a traffic stop.
Police say Potter mistook her gun for her Taser.
Potter has since resigned and has been charged with second-degree manslaughter.
The crowd of protesters gathered at the band shell.
We spoke to one of the organizers and they told us they wanted to hold this event to engage the community and hopefully bring people closer together.
They also want to make sure that all voices in our community are heard.
They then led a march in downtown La Crosse.
