A special breed of mustangs find a home in La Crescent

They can be traced back to the horses brought from Europe by the Spanish Conquistadors in the 1500's

LA CRESCENT, Minn (WKBT) – A local horseman is raising a special breed of mustangs in La Crescent. These Spanish Mustangs are special because of their genetic lineage.

They can be traced back to the horses brought from Europe by the Spanish Conquistadors in the 1500s.

Horseman Ed Walsh purchased five of the mustangs from a breeder in Wyoming recently. But because of the coronavirus, only three of his five are currently at his farm.

His plan is still to teach with what he has.

“It’s very rare to see, two, three, four, five of them at somebody’s farm. One of my goals is to promote the breed, and share the benefits of the breed,” said Walsh.

The Spanish Mustang is smaller than other horses but can run up to 75 miles in a single day.
