About 25% of voters in La Crosse expected to vote absentee

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — It’s safe to say that the COVID-19 pandemic changed our day-to-day life, including how we vote.

According to La Crosse City Clerk Nikki Elsen, 60% of voters in La Crosse voted absentee in 2020.

This was a significant increase from the election years prior to the pandemic.

Elsen says despite the positive turnout for absentee voters, she is doubtful that we’ll see that many people vote absentee again.

“As the years have been going on, absentee has been getting much more popular, be it by mail or the in-person absentee ballot, but not the jump like that,” said Elsen.

Elsen anticipates that up to 25% of voters in La Crosse will vote absentee this year.
