Adult, child killed in crash near Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — An adult and a child from West Burlington have been killed in a crash in eastern Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says a car struck the back of a semi-trailer, which had stopped in the right lane of westbound U.S. Highway 34 just east of Mount Pleasant.

The patrol says 58-year-old Ahmet Mahalbasic had parked his semi to get out and look at a used vehicle for sale parked near the road on Sunday afternoon around 12:28 p.m.

A car driven by a 23-year-old adult with a 2-year-old child passenger struck the back of the semi. Both were killed. Their names have not yet been released.
