ALERT DAY – Periods Of Light Snow Today

Expect periods of light snow today as a fairly weak disturbance tracks east/southeast across the region. The snow will likely be steadiest during the afternoon and evening hours. Temps could be just warm enough for a mix to occur at times in far south/east parts of the viewing area. Temps will remain cold with highs in the mid 30s, perhaps some mid-upper 30s far south & east.

Light accumulations of snow will be possible through tonight/early Monday morning. As of early Sunday morning, it’s looking like snow amounts will range from a trace to 2″ in most areas, but there could be some isolated spots reaching 3″. The highest totals are expected south and west of La Crosse. Even though we’re not expecting a lot of snow from this system, it could be enough to impact travel with slippery roads in some areas and reduced visibility as the snow showers move through. As a result of possible travel impacts and the fact it’s early in the winter driving season, Sunday is an ALERT DAY. Be sure to allow extra time and use caution on the roads if you have travel plans today or tonight.

Potential Snowfall Today & Tonight

The snow showers will taper to flurries later tonight with perhaps some flurries lingering into Monday morning. Otherwise, most of Monday looks dry with mostly to partly cloudy skies. Temps will remain cold Monday with highs in the mid 30s.

Looking Ahead… It will be unseasonably cold Monday night into Tuesday morning, with lows in the teens in most areas. It’s not out of the question that some of our traditional colder spots could drop into the single digits, especially if any snow is on the ground. This could result in record cold temps for some. Tuesday will be dry with partly sunny skies, but still cold with highs in the mid-upper 30s.

Temps warm a bit for Wednesday through Friday with highs in the mid 40s and possible upper 40s Friday. A weak disturbance passing by to the north could squeeze out some sprinkles or flurries in spots late Wednesday into Wednesday night. Expect mostly to partly cloudy skies Thursday, then more sunshine for Friday.

Mostly sunny and warmer (more seasonable) for Halloween Saturday with highs in the low-mid 50s. Sunday also look mostly sunny and dry at this point, with highs in the low 50s.
