All-Star Game prep well underway at Target Field
MINNEAPOLIS (WKBT) — The MLB All-Star game is a week away. The setup, both for the game itself and all the events surrounding it, is well underway.
Crews are working around the clock to make sure the city and its stadium are ready. Target Field will be transformed in a bunch of ways. For example, officials are adding tons of extra seating. The regular press box seats 100 people; for this game, they need to seat 400.
“Those are all going to be used for broadcasting the game, whether it’s on Fox, ESPN, MLB Network, they pretty much require more than half of our existing parking lot,” said Twins spokesman Chris Iles.
About a mile and a half away is the Minneapolis Convention Center. All four main exhibit halls are being transformed too, with 30 semis worth of stuff being brought in for the Fan Fest. Even Twins mascot TC stopped in to lend a paw!
Clearly, there’s a lot of work to be done.
“We started working on July 4th at 8 p.m. That’s the first moment we had the space, so we’ve been working since then to load [everything] in,” MLB Special Events Director Jacqueline Secaira-Cotto said.
