Alpine Sand pays $80,000 for alleged storm water permit violations

Water runoff into Newcomb Valley Creek was supposed to be contained

A settlement is reached between a Trempealeau County sand mine and the county and state officials.

The Department of Justice says Alpine Sand agreed to pay $80,000 for alleged storm water permit violations. The lawsuit was filed about two weeks ago.

The state says the operation based in the Town of Arcadia allowed storm water to run off the site into the Newcomb Valley Creek on multiple occasions in 2013. The runoff was supposed to be contained.
