Alternative transportation forum looks to the future
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Sustainable La Crosse Commission is listening to ideas on the future of transportation in the area.
The commission held a forum at City Hall Wednesday night, along with representatives from the DOT, MTU and SMRT bus to start the discussion on addressing traffic in the region.
As part of the forum, they asked those in attendance to think about what they thought transportation would look like in the year 2030.
Mike Giese says figuring out alternative ways to travel around La Crosse has been an issue for decades.
“We have been addressing this question since I came to town in (19)91, so it’s been on the table for a long time, but we still haven’t come to a clear sense of where we want to go in our maintaining and developing new transportation alternatives,” said Giese.
Organizers say they’re still in the early conversation stage of trying to reduce traffic in the area, but hope any ideas out of tonight’s meeting will help future discussions.
