UPDATE: Altoona Interim Superintendent issues message to district families

ALTOONA, Wis. (WKBT) – The Altoona School Board hired an interim superintendent last night.
At a special school board meeting on February 27, Dr. Ronald J. Walsh was hired as an interim superintendent.
According to a news release, the board expects Walsh to serve through the end of this school year. The board also agreed to begin its contingency planning in the wake of the arrest of its present superintendent. The school’s superintendent search firm will begin seeking applicants within the next few days. The process will be similar to the past search with an anticipated decision to be made before the end of April, the release said.
Walsh issued a message to district families, expressing appreciation for the support from both parents and community members: Altoona Interim Superintendent Message to Parents
In the letter, Walsh said, “At the same meeting, the School Board took steps to begin contingency planning in the wake of the arrest of Dan Peggs last week. Peggs is no longer receiving school payroll and is only receiving benefits that we are required to pay out by law. We anticipate that these required benefit payments and employment will be terminated not later than the end of March.”
Walsh also discussed opportunities for families to participate in education sessions from an area nonprofit, Fierce Freedom. Those sessions are available to community members tomorrow morning as follows:
- 10:00 and 11:00 am Human Trafficking Education Sessions
- 12:00 – 2:00 pm Survivor and Parent Advocates Available
Their office is located at 2519 N Hillcrest Parkway, Suite 200, Altoona.
