Ames apartment fire displaces dozens of tenants

No injuries have been reported that was first reported about 5:45 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters traced the origin to a boat parked in a ground-floor garage. Ames Fire Chief Clint Petersen says the flames spread up the siding into the attic.

Peterson says the fire was under control by 11 a.m., although firefighters remained on the scene to put out hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The building has 56 apartments on the second and third floors, and Petersen says all 56 were damaged.
