Anamosa police officer dies on duty

ANAMOSA, Iowa (AP) — Anamosa police say a police officer who died while on duty was found on a pedestrian bridge by the entrance to Wapsipinicon State Park in Anamosa.

KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids reports Police Chief Bob Simonson says 34-year-old Officer David Riches went on duty at midnight. Simonson says Riches did not have a call at the bridge.

Officials say Riches died early Monday, but his death is not considered suspicious.

Simonson says Riches’ patrol car was parked next to the bridge. The officer left the car and walked to the middle of the bridge.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating Riches’ death.
