Anderson retires as La Crosse Central cross country coach

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Scott Anderson on Wednesday night made the big announcement to his team.

After 36 years as head girls cross country coach at La Crosse Central, Anderson had decided to retire.

Anderson enjoyed possibly unprecedented program success in his years leading the Red Raiders. Under his watch his teams accumulated 28 conference championships, 19 sectional titles, 26 WIAA state appearances, and four state titles.

Central was crowned WIAA Class A State Champions in 1985, 1988, and 1989. The Red Raiders also claimed the WIAA Division 1 State Championship in 1990.

Including those titles, Central produced 14 teams that finished in the top three at state under Anderson.

“Coach Anderson has been an inspirational and influential coach to his student runners for the past 36 years,” La Crosse Central Athletic Director Joe Beran said in a released statement.  “During his time with these young women he not only shaped and perfected their ability to run, but also provided a foundation to lead a quality life premised on character and the belief that they can achieve very high goals.”
