Ann Marie Morkrid

WESTBY, WI – Ann Marie Morkrid, age 53, of Westby passed away on August 7, 2021, surrounded by her family at Bethel Home in Viroqua, WI. She was born in Janesville, WI, on August 2, 1968, the daughter of Conrad and Terri (Lewison) Sanwick.

Ann graduated from Craig High School in 1986 and went on to marry Arnold Morkrid in 1989. They had three children: Amber, Austin and Anna. Ann was a true sun worshipper and loved the summer heat – if the weather was warm, she was happy. When the sun was out, Ann could be found enjoying flowers in the garden, or sipping a margarita while listening to some old-school R&B. When she did spend time indoors, Ann enjoyed shopping, reading, watching movies, and being with her grandchildren. Family was everything to Ann and she was always looking forward to planning the next holiday get-together. Christmas always gave her a special chance to bake goodies with her granddaughters. Ann’s struggles were no secret; after a near-death accident, she was left paralyzed, but continued to fight for over a decade. New grandbabies and interest in her family’s activities inspired her to care about the future and fight to stay alive. Ann was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by immediate and extended family as well as her caregivers.

Ann is survived by her children: Amber (Rich) King, Austin Morkrid, and Anna (Jonah VanCleave) Morkrid; four grandchildren: Ady, Alaina, Aeson, and Kolter; two sisters: Cathy (Arvid) Hanson, and Kim (Stephen) Sailsbery; and her beloved cats: Oreo and Myrtle.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by an infant sister, Tabitha.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, at Thorson-Popp Funeral and Cremation Services in Viroqua. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 12, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
