Annual convention focuses on ways to increase Wis. Wages
Mary Burke, Tammy Baldwin attend annual AFL-CIO convention
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Wisconsin AFL-CIO is holding its annual convention this week in La Crosse.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke and Senator Tammy Baldwin are just a few names in attendance.
This year’s theme is “Wisconsin is Ready”. The convention is focusing on how to raise wages and build Wisconsin’s labor unions. It’s something the national president of the AFL-CIO says people of Wisconsin are more than ready for.
“The American public understands the importance of collective bargaining. They know the wages have been flat for years, and the only way they’re going to get a fair shake is to be able to speak together in unison. And you’re seeing little pockets of that everywhere,” said AFL-CIO National President Richard Trumka.
This is the 28th year of the convention.
