Annual Veterans Breakfast held at UW-La Crosse

Freedom Honor Flight hosted, student athletes volunteered

Veterans were honored throughout the day Tuesday.

The day started at UW-La Crosse where Freedom Honor Flight hosted its annual Veterans Breakfast. UWL student athletes helped serve breakfast to about 600 people this morning.

Freedom Honor Flight flies veterans to Washington DC to see monuments in their honor but they saw a need for a local event for vets.

“We sat down and asked our group is there anything major that goes on for veterans day in the Greater La Crosse area, and nobody knew of anything and we called a couple of legions and VFWs and stuff and it was really no big major, special event, so the folks and Freedom Honor Flight decided, ‘let’s make it happen,'” said Freedom Honor Flight President Pat Stephens.

The morning also included a brief ceremony in the Hall of Honor at the Veteran’s Memorial Field Complex.
