Another recall? Wisconsin village president targeted
ELMWOOD PARK, Wis. (AP) — Sometimes it seems like it’s always recall season somewhere in Wisconsin.
The latest effort is in the Racine County Village of Elmwood Park. A recall committee says it submitted 109 signatures to recall Village President Audrey Viau.
Village Clerk Veronica Rudychev said Friday she expects the group will have more than the necessary 66 valid signatures.
The committee says it’s upset about the way Viau has handled a developer’s proposal to build a Walmart on the site of a vacant grocery store and adjacent residential property.
Former Elmwood Park Trustee Tom Mills says he’ll challenge Viau in a recall election. He says he made the decision after witnessing Viau’s failure to communicate.
A Journal Times of Racine report says a recall election would likely be in September.
