Aquinas Middle School donates to WAFER

'Stuff the Bus' event gathers 3,100 pounds of food

A local middle school is already embracing the giving season.

Aquinas Middle School donated 3,100 pounds of food and toiletries to WAFER in La Crosse on Monday. It’s the result of their annual “Stuff the Bus” competition.

Last week the students were challenged to bring in nonperishable foods like canned fruits and pasta to donate to those in need.

“They’re helping their community and they just try to bring in as much as possible,” said Aquinas Middle School 8th Grader Lexi Harwick.

“This food could probably be gone by early January if not sooner, it’s hard to judge, but it goes fast at this time of the year, seems to be a bigger need in winter than any other time,” said WAFER Board of Directors Secretary Don Smith.

WAFER is also banking on donations from Rotary Lights which kicks off on Friday.
