Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Area elementary school students teamed up with local adults to find out who could out smart each other.
Sixteen teams of local celebrities and 5th graders from local schools met to compete and raise money for the Coulee Region Retired and Senior Volunteer program. The program provides volunteer opportunities and experiences to individuals 55 or older.
Organizers say an event like this made perfect sense for the program.
“We were looking for an intergenerational event and a lot of our volunteers tutor and mentor kids in our schools. So it was quite obvious that we would think ‘well let’s do something that’s intergenerational. Let’s do Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader and pair adults with 5th graders’ and see if it works,” said former RSVP executive director Lynnetta Kopp.
This is the 10th year the group has held this event. WKBT’s own Lisa Klein was one of the lucky contestants participating in the game Saturday.
