Area Boy Scouts hold 17th annual Golden Eagle fundraising dinner
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- A fundraiser Wednesday night for the local Gateway Area Council of the Boy Scouts comes at a critical time.
The 17th annual Golden Eagle Dinner was held at the Cargill room in downtown La Crosse to benefit local scouting programs.
Earlier this week, the National Boy Scouts of America organization announced it’s filing for bankruptcy as it faces a growing number of lawsuits over allegations of sexual abuse.
The local Gateway Council is a completely separate entity from the Boy Scouts national organization and all money raised locally stays in our area.
“We’re looking to generate funds to put back into programming at Camp Decorah, start new scouting units in the area, offer financial assistance for families in need and help as many families as possible be scouts,” said Gateway Executive CEO Joe Carlson.
Each year, the Gateway Council tries to bring in a local sports figure to help tell the story of scouting to the community.
This year’s featured guest was former Packer’s GM and Hall of Fame inductee Ron Wolf.
