Area church making capes for kids in pediatric ward
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Last November, an area church organized a sewing bee to create super hero capes for kids in Gundersen’s pediatric ward.
On Saturday, the group reconvened at Wesley United Methodist Church to continue making capes which will be given to kids through the Children’s Miracle Network and Gundersen Health System.
The capes are meant to empower kids who are diagnosed with serious medical issues.
Organizers say the capes go a long way in raising the spirits of patients.
“We actually are making something that is more just for fun. It is something that inspires folks to have a little bit of joy, a little bit of fun, a little bit of happiness. Even if you’re in a hospital bed and your mobility is limited, you can have a cape with a shazam on it and have a little piece of adventure,” said Heather Talbot, a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
The group hopes to deliver the capes to the hospital in mid-March.
