Area fat tire trails becoming popular

Just because there’s snow on the ground doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy biking on area trails.

Volunteers with the Outdoor Recreation Alliance spent the day grooming Fat Tire bike trails around Hixon Forest.

Fat Tire Bikes have grown in popularity over the past few years and give bikers an opportunity to enjoy the sport during the winter with thicker than normal tires.

“Fat biking came around about 10 years ago but it’s really gotten popular within the last four or five years and it just gives you another avenue for being outside and riding your bike in the winter,” said Joshua Blum, a trail volunteer with the Outdoor Recreation Alliance.
