Area fire departments lift burn bans due to recent rainfall
WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) — Due to recent rainfall, some area municipalities are now lifting the burn ban.
On Monday afternoon, Onalaska Fire Chief Don Dominick lifted the burn ban for the City of Onalaska and portions of the Town of Onalaska and the Town of Medary covered by the Onalaska Fire Department.
As of 7 a.m. on Monday, the West Salem Fire Department lifted the burn ban for the West Salem Fire Protection District and the Holmen Area Fire Department lifted its burn ban.
The Stoddard-Bergen Fire Department lifted the burn ban on Saturday, April 12 for the Town of Bergen amd Village of Stoddard. But the department still requests that before you burn anything, you check with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office at 1-800-637-2123.

Several area municipalities have issued a burn ban due to a very high risk of wildfires.
The West Salem Fire Department issued a burn ban for the West Salem Fire Protection District on Tuesday morning.
A burn ban is alsoin effect in the Town of Farmington and the Village of Stoddard and the Town of Bergen until conditions improve. On Tuesday, Stoddard-Bergen Fire Chief Joe Pfaff said charcoal grills may be used only in the immediate vicinity of a residential dwelling ona non-combustible surface, such as concrete.
The City of Onalaska Fire Chief Don Dominick also issued a “fire ban in place for all open burning in the City of Onalaska, and the portions of the Town of Onalaska, and the Town of Medary covered by the Onalaska Fire Department.”
The Holmen Area Fire Department Fire Chief Doug Schober issued a burn ban as of 7 a.m. on Thursday, April 10. He said the ban includes all burning with regards to: all open burning; open burning of brush; yard waste and alike; burn barrels; bonfires; andcampfires and recreational fires.
Chief Schober said outdoor cooking fires shall be aproved through this fire ban with limitations established as: “All cooking fires shall be contained and maintained in natural gas or charcoal fired appliances listed and approved for such use. All others shall be in violation throughout this ban and their use shall be discontinued until further notification of the Holmen Area Fire Department.”
Kendall issued a burn ban on Friday afternoon.
