Area kids take part in adaptive water skiing

A group of kids who normally don’t get a chance to get out on the water didn’t let a cloudy morning get in their way.

The River City Water Ski team held its second annual adaptive water skiing clinic this morning on French Island Thursday.

The clinic gives kids with different abilities the chance to try water skiing, thanks to specially-designed equipment.

Members of the ski team say the event is a lot of fun both for the kids and for them because they like seeing all of the smiling faces.

“Everybody that was here helping or watching, they were smiling from ear to ear and they just couldn’t contain their happiness because it was just such a joy and these kids loved it,” said Maureen McCoy, a member of the ski team.

The River City Water Skiers only have one set of adaptive ski gear right now, but hope to add more in the future.
