Area run walk honors all veterans

Area runners and walkers were out enjoying Saturday’s abnormally warm weather while supporting our nation’s veterans.

The La Crosse Council Navy League hosted an honor run/walk to benefit the Freedom Honor flight and the USO Wisconsin.

The event is a way to honor veterans who have fallen while also honoring those who are living.

It kicked off with a rose ceremony and then a 5K through the La Crosse Marsh.

Organizers say its important for the community to honor all veterans.

“We need to celebrate those who are serving us today so this event is kind of unique because it does both. It honors the fallen and then celebrates the living so its great for the community to come together and it’s for a great cause,” said Bob Marconi, president of the La Crosse Council Navy League.

Around 60 people participated in Sunday’s event.
