Area school staff members loosen up before year starts

Staff perform skits for attendees at annual opening day celebration

With summer coming to a close the La Crosse school district is working to start the school year off on a positive note.

The district took part in its opening day celebration Thursday at Central High School. The celebration has become a long time tradition in the district.

On Thursday staff celebrated the start of the new school year with some comic relief by putting on skits for everyone in attendance. Staff says it’s a great way to cut loose before coming back to the classroom full-time.

“This is a time to remember we’re here for the human element. We’re here to experience joy. We’re here to experience excitement, we’re here to capture that energy and hopefully that will be the right way to propel us into the school year,” said Hamilton Elementary and SOTA 1 Schools Principal Steve Michaels.

The day isn’t all about fun and games. It’s also a chance for staff members to get to know one another.

“It helps focus you on the team you are with, within your building, and it also makes you part of the bigger picture of the whole school district. So we’re a team with in our building and in our district as well,” said La Crosse School District Literary Specialist Kim Edwards.

The first day of school for students is next Tuesday.
