Authorities probe Iowa house fire that left 1 dead
SWISHER, Iowa (AP) — State and local officials are investigating a house fire in eastern Iowa that left one person dead.
Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said his office received a report Monday of a house fire in Swisher, about 10 miles north of Iowa City.
He said a witness who went to check on the house found a deceased individual inside, and that it appeared a fire had occurred before going out on its own.
Pulkrabek said the name of the victim was not being released pending notification of family members. He says his office is working with the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Johnson County Medical Examiner on the investigation.
