Aviation Day raises scholarship money for future pilots

The La Crosse Regional Airport kicked off Aviation Day on Sunday with all you can eat Waffles.

The event raised money for scholarships for anyone interested in learning how to fly.

People were also able to see what goes on behind the scenes of the regional airport.

“It just seems like not enough people realize that we have it out here and hardly anyone gets to see this side of the airport,” said Becky Brockman, president of the La Crosse Area Flyers. “And you know me who gets to eat in an airport hanger very often? If you’ve ever flown in an airplane, if you’ve ever looked up in the sky and wondered what airplane was flying over, this is a good place to find out about them. “

Members involved in some of the youth flying programs say these opportunities let people not only experience the airport from a different view but the world as well.

“It’s just one of those things I like doing. and I just  like being above the world  looking down at everything instead looking up at everything you know?” said Robbie Ruprecht, Air Academy member.

There were several raffle prizes available at the event including the chance to win a brand new Ford Mustang.
