Badger State Games to continue
WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — The Badger State Games will get a second chance under new leadership.
The economy and declining participation had the Olympic-style games in doubt after 25 years. But, the Wausau/Central Wisconsin Convention & Visitors Bureau has acquired rights to both the winter and summer games and will continue the tradition.
The winter games in the Wausau area on Feb. 3-5 will be trimmed from 19 to seven events. The summer games will stay in the Fox Cities for at least three years under the terms of the agreement between the visitors bureau and the games’ previous owner, Wisconsin Sports Development Corp. of Madison.
WAOW-TV says the visitors bureau will invest $15,000 in athletic scholarships during the next three years.
