Bangor FFA students donate 32,000 pounds of produce to WAFER
BANGOR, Wis. (WKBT) — A local group of students is doing what they can to ensure their community has the food it needs.
The WAFER Food Pantry’s shelves are stocked ahead of this winter thanks in part to Bangor High School’s Future Farmers of America club. FFA members grew and donated more than 32,000 pounds of food to the pantry this year.
By giving to WAFER, the students see their garden as a chance to help those in need within their own community.
“They’re a local food pantry that is mobile, and so they come to Bangor and West Salem where we know people that are in need of food,” said Bangor High School Sophomore Dustin Heitkamp.
The Bangor FFA hopes to continue their garden next year and either meet or break this year’s record high 32,000 pounds of donated produce.
