Battle of the Beards raising money for local Rotary Club
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A competition is celebrating both those who can and cannot grow facial hair. The first annual “Battle of the Beards” was held at Pearl Street Brewery on Saturday night.
There were six categories including full beard, partial beard and even “fake beard” for people who wanted to join in on the fun.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Holmen Area Rotary Club. The group has helped with a number of projects, including building beds for children in need, donating bike repair stations and bagging food for the hungry at iFeed.
“We’ve done a lot of really cool stuff. We just gave $50,000 to the Holmen Area Community Center to pledge. So we can’t do those cool things unless we have people come to events like this,” said Barry Ploessl, a past president of the Holmen Area Rotary Club.
The event happens in conjunction with No-Shave November for men’s cancer awareness.
