Group raising money for cancer research

A group of students from Texas are biking through our area as they head to Alaska!

60 University of Texas students are taking part in the fifteenth annual Texas 4,000 for Cancer. The group is biking from their home state to Anchorage, Alaska, while raising money for cancer research.

As a part of their application for the program, each student raises at least $4,500 and volunteers at least 50 hours in their community.

“I think cancer really is one of those things that has touched everyone, whether it be directly or indirectly, and so it’s always really cool to hear stories and hear how cancer has affected them personally,” said Texas 4,000 Rider Maxwell Newton.

The 4,000 mile ride will take a total of 70 days.
