Bird knocks out power in La Farge

LA FARGE, Wis. — On one of the hottest days of the year, a bird knocks out power for almost all of the village of La Farge.

The bird flew into a substation at around 9:00 a.m., firefighter Greg Lawton tells News 8.

A backup generator provided power off and on, but most of La Farge didn’t have power for more than three hours.

Lawton says Organic Valley, one of the largest energy users in the area, had to send employees home during the power outage.

The La Farge Fire Station was set up to provide a cool place for residents to go during the outage, but Lawton says no one came to the station.

Temperatures in the La Farge area were near 90 degrees Friday morning, with heat indices nearly 100 degrees.
