Blood donations needed during busy summer season

The need for blood donations in our community continues.

Blood Center of Wisconsin is issuing an emergency appeal for donations.

The number of appointments and donations dropped following July 4th.

With so many usual donors busy with holiday plans, the temporary drop is potentially dangerous for those in need.

“Generally speaking, the margin what’s donated and what’s used by hospitals is fairly slim. So when we get into times where there’s a day or two that people aren’t donating, it can really put a crunch on the system,” said Wayne Bottner, Medical Director of the Gundersen Health System Blood Bank.

The blood types most in need are A, B and O.
