Blood drive underway at La Crosse Center
BloodCenter of Wisconsin sent out emergency appeal for donations
LA CROSSE, WI — There is a blood drive at the La Crosse Center’s North Hall on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The blood drive is part of an emergency appeal for donations.

The BloodCenter of Wisconsin is sending out an emergency appeal for donations.
Officials say they are down to less than a one-day supply for certain types of blood. They are looking for another 1,000 units fast.
There is a blood drive at the La Crosse Center’s North Hall until 5 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.
The BloodCenter of Wisconsin says the combination of a shortage of donations and high usage this summer has created a critical need.
News 8’s Martha Koloski donated blood early Wednesday morning at the La Crosse Center o show people how easy it is.
“I checked in at 8:30 this morning, answered a questionnaire which you do each time you donate, which takes about 5 minutes,” Koloski said. “Then, they do a quick finger prick to draw some blood to make sure you are healthy enough to donate today. They also check your temperature and blood pressure… just to make sure everything looks good.”
Then it’s time to donate blood.
“Other than the initial needle stick, it really is painless,” Koloski continued. “They make sure you are feeling well before you head out.”
From start to finish it only takes about 45 minutes. They say plan for about an hour. BloodCenter of Wisconsin is hoping for about 500 donors.
The Bloodcenter is extending its hours over the next two days for people who want to give blood. You can donate until 5 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday at the La Crosse Center’s North Hall.
