‘Blue Kids’ represent thousands of children abused in Wisconsin and Minnesota each year
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – With April only two days away, one organization is getting the word out Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The Family & Children’s Center has placed about 150 Blue Kids on its Weston Street property.
It’s to represent the thousands of children abused in Wisconsin and Minnesota each year.
Right now there’s something else the Center is raising awareness about: the impact of coronavirus.
For some kids, home isn’t a safe place to be, and that’s a concern because abuse is commonly reported by teachers and other trusted adults.
Without their watchful eyes, these kids could face a higher risk of being harmed.
“We are concerned that as this pandemic goes on, that there could be, behind closed doors, more instances of abuse,” said Tita Yutuc, President and CEO of the Family & Children’s center.
According to the Family and Children’s Center, only one-third of child abuse cases are reported to authorities.
So if you see something, say something.
