‘Blueprint for Change’ detail plan to evolve policing in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) – A new plan is showing ways policing could change in Wisconsin.

‘A Blueprint for Change: Opportunities to Evolve Policing in Wisconsin’ was released Wednesday morning.

The plan from the Wisconsin Professional Police Association details proposals in four categories.

Training and Standards, Oversight and Accountability, Community Engagement and Innovation and lastly, Officer Wellness.

The report cites how the death of George Floyd and shooting of Jacob Blake has made the discussion for reform difficult.

But it is still important for Wisconsin and the country.

“We have to work to prevent perfection from being the enemy of progress. And we have to make some positive steps forward and we believe that this plan is a good foundation from which to have that discussion,” said WPPA executive director Jim Palmer.

The report also calls for a ‘Governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission’ to examine economic, educational, health care and criminal justice systems.
